Nitinol

Nitinol is a so-called shape memory alloy. This means it can "memorize" it is shape. Say you have a TMC METAL nitinol wire. You can bend it and twist it into all kinds of shapes, but then when you have heat it up, it miraculously springs back into the shape you bought it in. How cool is that?

The Metal That Can "Remember" Its Shape

So how does nitinol pull off this amazing trick? Well, it all has to do with how the atoms in the metal are arranged. When nitinol rod is bent or altered, the atoms rearrange themselves to accommodate the new shape. But when you heat it, the atoms spring back into their original spots, and the metal returns to it is remembered shape. It’s magic, but it is definitely science.
